ELK and ADLER: a fantastic team!
Leading prefabricated house supplier ELK and their all-round coating partner ADLER make dream homes a reality.

An uncompromising commitment to quality has allowed ELK to develop from a small importer of log cabins into Austria's market leader for prefabricated houses: almost everyone knows this manufacturer with their characteristic elk's head logo. In over 60 years of company history, 26,000 houses have now been built, making more than 52,000 residents happy: this is because ELK only uses competent partners and top-quality materials – as with the paints, glazes and oils they source from ADLER, which give the various models of home their individual colours. "We have put together a complete package that leaves nothing to be desired in terms of surfaces and guarantees the right coating for all wooden elements," says Bernhard Schiffthaler, ADLER Key Account Manager for the window industry and industrial timber construction in Austria, who is delighted with this forward-looking collaboration.
Windows & facades
ELK are always ahead of the times with their cutting-edge design and flexible design options: the elegant timber formwork and facades that are currently in particularly high demand have long since been added to the range. They are finished with Lignovit Platin or Lignovit Lasur by ADLER. ELK coat some of the components themselves in their state-of-the-art production facilities in Schrems, where experienced and skilled workers manufacture walls, ceilings and roof elements. Other components are coated for ELK by the timber professionals at REMA Premium Timber and Formholz. A Czech partner, Kasalova pila, is responsible for roof trusses, balconies and gables, for example on log cabins: in this case, the components are painted twice by hand. ELK also produce their windows in the neighbouring Czech Republic, at the company's own subsidiary WindowStar. The high-quality timber and aluminium windows are protected by a three-layer Aquawood coating system by ADLER, while the Aquawood Protor system is used for the timber or timber and aluminium exterior doors: "ELK only use top-quality products from ADLER!" emphasises WindowStar Managing Director, engineer Michael Janetschek.
Stairs & kitchens
Another premium partner from the Czech Republic manufactures the staircases that give the ELK houses their personal touch: SWN Moravia not only connects the different levels, but also includes useful extra features – such as additional storage space – and all this in a distinctive design: their staircases come in a wide variety of wood types and finishes, as desired, with stains, colourless varnishes, coloured paints or oils from ADLER, making them an attractive focal point! When it comes to the kitchen, prospective owners of the prefabricated houses can opt for a kitchen designer and manufacturer such as Häcker , who also use ADLER coatings for their surfaces. Wherever wood is used, two strong partners, ELK and ADLER, guarantee the best possible protection and dreamlike beauty!
ADLER – paint runs through our veins
With 720 employees, ADLER is Austria's leading manufacturer of varnishes, paints and wood preservatives. Founded in 1934 by Johann Berghofer, this family business is now managed by a member of the third generation, Andrea Berghofer. Every year, 21,000 tonnes of paint leave the Schwaz plant and are delivered to customers in more than 30 countries worldwide. ADLER has sales subsidiaries in Germany, Italy, Poland, the Netherlands, Switzerland, the Czech Republic and Slovakia; their sole production site is the ADLER-Werk Lackfabrik in Schwaz, Tyrol (Austria). ADLER was one of the first companies in its sector to be 100% climate-neutral (since 2018). The company has been able to reduce its carbon footprint to a minimum through a wide range of measures. ADLER offsets any unavoidable residual emissions through the purchase of recognised climate protection certificates, thereby helping to finance new climate protection projects
